Bruno Ribeiro Montreal, Quebec, Canada Bruno Ribeiro is a multi-disciplinary artist and a director at Moment Factory. In each of his projects, he develops immersive and synaesthetic ecosystems where the body, image, sound, light and stage design continually intertwine in a synchronized choreography. Through artistic and technical research, Bruno creates new narrative forms, focusing on the sensory and experimental side of the work. Emphasizing the idea more than technology, he employs a DIY and empirical approach to manipulatey of tools. Regular collaboration with other artists and programmers helps him to continually discover new sources of inspiration and technique. He has contributed to several major projects at Moment Factory, including Aura, Nova Lumina, and Muse’s Drones tour. Black Lake Toronto, Ontario, Canada Since their founding in 2014, Black Lake have been an integral part of bringing the visual dimension of our events to life. From crafting imagery out of thin air, to running infrared film shoots with squirt guns and slip-n-slides, to remixing footage into fully synchronized edits, to shooting exploding glass bottles at 2000fps or building 3D animated worlds – their team is a jack-of-all-trades outfit, paying great attention to the syncing of audio and video. Jerobeam Fenderson Oscilloscope Music Graz, Austria Jerobeam Fenderson creates audiovisual music where the images are created by soundwaves on an analog oscilloscope. Although the idea of “seeing music” is hard to grapple with, the close correlation between image and sound makes for an immersive sensory experience. Minimalistic green lines form abstract lissajous shapes that mutate into complex vector graphics, using the left and right audio channels as X and Y coordinates. With a background in electronics and audio engineering, Jerobeam began experimenting with technical approaches to composition around 2012, and has since developed his own form of expression with Oscilloscope Music. The first track of its kind was “Nuclear Black Noise”, a composition consisting entirely of sine waves, and it was followed by ever-evolving audio-visual live shows, and an album in 2016. Oscilloscope Music turns the transformation of abstract concepts into something tangible that works on an emotional level outside of its technical context. Using this approach, math doesn’t seem like the dry concept it is often seen as, but rather a key to the fundamental principles of nature.
