FAN BASS: IMPOSSIBLE AND OVERWHELMING

On a daily basis I get requests for life advice, questions from people who are struggling through hard times, or generally need guidance or assistance in making big decisions. I wanted to take some time to offer my advice, for what it’s worth… I got pretty carried away with the response, and then this turned into a MAJOR ramble, so I decided to huck it up here, since I give some type of this answer out regularly. now you can read it here, or share it with a friend if you like: Would you have any advice for going through a hard time in life? I don’t have anyone to talk to. I feel depressed. I’m unsure of the path I need to take and feel permanently stuck. Got any words of wisdom about deciding what I should do with my life? -Anonymous Hi! The good news is you are most definitely not permanently stuck, but I know life can feel that way sometimes. And as disheartening or frightening as it may feel, I suggest viewing that feeling as An Indicator – your mind is letting you know that something in life needs your attention. If you accidentally cut your

FAN BASS: LICENSING MY MUSIC

We get a lot of questions through our Ask A Question form, this one came in today: ================== I love you, but I just saw your song on a commercial for the lamest movie: when did you become such a sellout!? It says “‘all you need is a laptop, some talent, and one track” – how can you be about that?? ================== OK, lots to say about this! First off, that slogan is super lame,  and frankly so is mainstream EDM culture! That slogan is the epitome of mainstream cheese, and you know I’ve never been a part of that. My music is eclectic and comes from all directions, and I have one of the most complex live shows going on at any festival I play at. And although I play at EDM festivals, I’m an experimental DJ who loves all kinds of music: just like I’m not a rock band because I play at rock festivals. Just like Kendrick Lamar is a hip-hop artist, and is not EDM just because he plays at a festival… This movie is glitzy & goofy, like many mainstream movies, and I’m hyped to license a track to it. If it has some stupid

FAN BASS: PUSHING BUTTONS OR PUSHING BOUNDARIES

Lorin reopens the Fan Bass vault and answers a classic question about performing and DJing that has been the subject of much recent internet hype waffle: QUESTION: Hey Lorin – I’ve always wondered, and I think I speak for a lot of people when I ask this, but what exactly do you do on stage when you’re performing live? A lot of people argue that electronic music is nothing more than a DJ pushing buttons and that it takes “no skill.” I always tell them it is much more than that – obviously it takes skill to produce everything that you have, and I feel like your shows do in fact involve much more than just pressing play and pretending to mess with knobs, but could you please elaborate on how you actually do perform? I think that a lot of people are also curious. Keep spreading the word brotha!!! – kidonwheels

I’m all about having songs on the other side of the coin, but we need to keep the fight alive and we need to educate all these fresh new fans that I love so much. I have no doubt you are still on point with it off the stage, but I personally believe a portion of it needs to be on the stage.” -innavibemusic717

I’m not a religious person myself but spirituality and the way that people connect with reality is of particular interest to me. I’m just wondering because you seem to be very conscious of other people and the world we live in.” – Micheal Margolis
